Wisdom is most often and most effectively conveyed by a still tongue.........
Maturity – managing to somehow gain our emotions without losing our reason.
All too often – we allow our perversions and prejudices to define us.
Modern Leadership - Naked New World Emperors marching down ivy covered avenues with just a shade of doubt in their sidelong glances at the crowd - the naked leading the naked in a parade of elitism that no one understands or cares about except those who desperately desire to march in step or ride the floats tossing flowers.
Greed kills everything.....
Foreword of "Bones of Mississippi"
Being from Mississippi, I suffer from definition by place. Mississippi with all its beauty, shortcomings and contradictions provides a basic platform for my character, thoughts and actions. The overall soul of the place is seen by an outside world that doesn’t care to understand it but simply to judge it.
We’ve learned to live with that and even embrace it. A place where we show our scars with pride like an old biker pointing at his purple tattoos, where we flaunt our inconsistencies and justify our prejudices because they truly make us more interesting than most.
We are some of the most cultured folk in America – producing writing, music and art that we proudly hold up to the world and challenge it to do better. Most of the world can’t.
It’s a place where we value gentility, hospitality and history with all its chivalry and absurdity. It’s also a place where most of us still appreciate potlikker over our cornbread, cut cane fishing poles, fried chicken on Sundays, the pleasure of soft cool mud between our toes and where we lovingly place our oddities on the front porch with a sweet tea or homemade shine in their hand for all the world to see and marvel at......W.W.
